VI: SUMMARY AND SUGGESTIONS


6.1 Purposes of Practicum
   The aim of the lesson is to make students be able to :
   1. Identify appositive and its function.
   2. Identify appositive in the sentence at least 75%.
   3. Train their listening skill through whispering game.
   4. Train their writing skill by writing sentences through whispering game.

6.2 Procedures of Practicum
a. Pre Activity
    I started my teaching by greeting students. Then asked them whether they had prayed or not. If they had not prayed yet, I asked a leader to lead the prayer. Then, I asked their condition. I introduced myself and asked who was absent. After that I gave them a sentence and asked their opinion about a word I was pointed. Then I explained them the objectives of lesson for that day.

b. Main Activity
    I continued with explaining the topic. I explained the definition, function, and kinds of appositive. While explaining, I asked students which one was the appositive in some sentences. After that I introduced a game, whispering game. I divided students into some groups and explained the rules. The rules are the last representative would whisper to the representative in front. Then it continued till the first representative. For the first representative, s/he had to write the sentence that they heard on the board and identify which one was the appositive. After writing, the first representative had to go to the back, behind of the last representative. After explaining the rules, I started playing the games. I gave each representative 1 minute to whisper sentence and 1 minute to wite on the board. This game was useful. Student was very interested, and they was not bored. After the game finished, I gave them assignment. I gave them 10 minutes to do their assignment. Then we discussed together.

c. Closing Activity
    I reviewed the material that day. I asked students to retell what appositive was. Then I also gave them some question related to the topic and asked them to identify which one was the appositive in the sentence. The last I closed the lesson, and asked a leader to lead the prayer. 

6.3 Outcomes of Practicum
    In the second section / meeting, they always did a quiz, and they got good score. The student could identify which one was the appositive in the sentence. The student also understood the position of word (subject, direct object, and etc) that being renamed by the appositive. In addition, they did not feel bored during the class. Otherwise, they were active.

6.4 The Challenges of Practicum
    That was my first time teaching foreign student. I was nervous. As we know that English becomes second language there. That is common if they are advance in speaking English. At that time, I was afraid I could not explain the material clearly. But, when I did teaching, all the nervous feeling disappeared. The student understood what I explained, but sometimes when I explained, they could not catch the point because we had different pronunciation. But, they knew it and understood me very well. Then for my second teaching till the last, I did not feel nervous anymore. My cooperating teacher also gave me full support and ensured me that everything would be okay, and she believed I could do that.

6.5 Overall Impression
    I am grateful getting that school. I amazed when I was there for the first time, and I have been loved it. The member of school were so kind to me. The teachers was very friendly to me. Then, students were respect to me tough I was new comer there. When the students met me in corridor, canteen, or on the way they greeted me and smiled to me. For my cooperating teacher, she treated me so well. She is like my mom there. She treated me like her own daughter. When she knew that mostly I ate with egg, she invited me dinner, and breakfast. She always gave me advice and suggestion for my teaching, and shared her experiences in teaching. She always asked my condition, what did I do, and what did I eat for breakfast and dinner. She also often gave me gifts. I am really grateful there. 

6.6 Suggestion for Future Improvement
  Getting foreign experience is one of my dreams. Getting this great opportunity is my step to continue my future. The suggestion for future improvement are :
1. Attitude. Joining student exchange is going outside of our country, and meeting with other people. If we can keep our good attitude, we can have many friends and relation to share experience each other. Then, having good attitude, such as being on time will effect our daily life and bring benefit for us.
2. English skill. We know that English becomes international language. When we decide to join student exchange, we also ready for communicating with foreigner, in which here absolutely use English. If we feel our English needs enhancement, we are required to moe exercise speaking English. Because when we join student exchange, such as Sea Teacher, we will teach foreign student by using English, and we will spent our a month time with foreigner. So, English skill need to be noticed
3. Survive. When we go abroad, the environment will quite different with ours. When we got problem, or face something different, we must be able to survive. Survive here means we can not complain and give up. We have to face it whatever the reason. Once we decide to go abroad, we have to be ready with all the possibilities. The key is believe. Believe we can do it, believe we can face it, and believe we can solve it.
